This week was the kickoff for the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, which consists of a several-day event filled with press conferences from a number of different automotive manufacturers. The event is called AutoMobility LA, and this year Hyundai introduced a whopping five vehicles during its block of time! Among them was the trio of Hyundai Ioniq models, updated for the 2020 model year.
What’s new in the 2020 Ioniq Hybrid?
Refreshed for the new model year, you’ll likely notice the 2020 Ioniq Hybrid’s exterior design enhancements first and foremost. It has a new mesh-style grille within a redesigned front fascia as well as new side sill moldings and rear fascia. Within those fascias, the headlights, taillights and daytime running lights have all been upgraded to LEDs. And finally, the wheels were redesigned for the new model.
On the inside, both the upper and lower instrument panels were redesigned, including a dark chrome trim around the panel itself. The upper console cover is new, as is the center LDC information screen. Add piano key controls and touchscreen heating and cooling controls to the mix, as well as high-tech customizable ambient lighting, and you’ve got an exciting cabin.
The standard infotainment system has been upgraded from 7” to 8” but in higher trim levels it will be enhanced even further to an available 10.25” widescreen with navigation. Other basic new features include regenerative brake level control paddles, the Blue Link connected car system, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, Qi wireless charging and power-folding side mirrors featuring puddle lamps. Furthermore, Smart Cruise Control has been improved to include Stop & Go technology while the Infinity premium audio system has been replaced with one from Harman Kardon.
Finally, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid receives Hyundai SmartSense, the package of driver-assistive safety features and technologies. Included among them are Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (with Pedestrian Detection on higher trim levels), Lane Keeping Assist, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Follow Assist, Highway Driving Assist and front parking sensors.
