“IONIQ 5 will accommodate lifestyles without limits, proactively caring for customers’ needs throughout their journey. It is truly the first electric vehicle to provide a new experience with its innovative use of interior space and advanced technologies.”

– Thomas Schemera, Executive Vice President & Global Chief Marketing Officer, Hyundai Motor Company

Which segment will it belong to?

The first model to be released from the IONIQ sub-brand will be the all-electric IONIQ 5, which will slide right into the midsize crossover segment.

What are some of its design cues?

The vehicle’s overall aesthetic certainly explores some design cues that likely wouldn’t be possible without a dedicated battery-electric vehicle platform. It pays homage to the design of the Hyundai Pony, which was the vehicle’s first production car built 45 years ago. With a 118” wheelbase, the exterior emphasizes the typology of electric vehicles to be sure. On the inside, versatile usability and immense comfort were at the forefront of the vehicle’s design.

What are its charging features?

Charging is always an important thing to consider when shopping for an all-electric vehicle. The IONIQ 5 will not only deliver powerful performance, but also offer a pair of ultra-fast charging options in the form of 400- and 800-volt multi-charging.

We’re not done taking a look at the 2022 IONIQ 5 from the new Hyundai Motor Company sub-brand, so be sure to check back often for further updates.
