We know we’ve already covered some of the basics where the all-new 2020 Hyundai Sonata is concerned, but we wanted to dive into some of the more specifics as far as what’s new in the compact sedan. We’re not going to focus on the sedan’s design as it’s so drastically different there’d be too much to cover along with everything else, but we’re going to dive into some of the specs & features that have been enhanced or added for the new generation.

Hyundai Firsts
There are a pair of things that are not only new in the Sonata but new to the Hyundai lineup as a whole, as they’ve never been done before in a Hyundai model. Although we said we weren’t going to focus on design, one of these firsts does have to do with design. The Hidden Lighting Lamps integrated into the front-end design have never appeared in a Hyundai vehicle before! They turn chrome when the vehicle is off but light up when it’s powered on. Secondly, the Sonata marks the first time the new Digital Key technology was included in a Hyundai vehicle!
Powertrain
An all-new engine underpins the Sonata’s powertrain for the next generation. A 2.5L GDI, the engine is capable of generating an estimated 191 horsepower, 181 pound-feet of torque and 33 miles per gallon. Additionally, a 1.6L turbocharged engine option can be selected, dropping horsepower and fuel economy ever so slightly but enhancing torque. Either engine will be tethered to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Audio System
Lastly, Hyundai and Bose recently began a new collaboration and the Bose audio system found in the 2020 Sonata is the first thing to come out of that collab. The system contains 12 speakers as well as both Bose Centerpoint and SurroundStage technology.
