Last year, the Hyundai Elantra GT underwent a major redesign to propel it into the next generation. This year it remains one of the best options in the compact hatchback sedan segment, especially considering its immense cargo capacity. We thought we’d see how the sedan measures up to perhaps its greatest competitor by pitting the 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT vs 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.
2019 Hyundai Elantra GT |
Vs |
2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback |
---|---|---|
162 HP | Horsepower | 168 HP |
2,943 lbs. | Curb Weight | 3,060 lbs. |
27 mpg | Combined Fuel Efficiency | 31 mpg |
24.9 cu. ft. | Cargo Capacity | 17.9 cu. ft. |
As you can tell from the table above, these two hatchback sedans are incredibly comparable to one another. Unfortunately, the Corolla Hatchback does have a bit of an edge out the gate. The top row depicts power, an area in which the Elantra GT gives up 6 HP. That’s hardly a noticeable advantage, but it is there. However, the second row shows that the Hyundai sedan weighs 117 pounds less than the Toyota, which means it doesn’t need quite as much power.
While that cuts the performance inequalities down to practically non-existent, we have to easy fix for the combined fuel efficiency deficit depicted in the third row. Toyota is well known for its incredible fuel efficiency, and the Corolla Hatchback is clearly no different as it achieves an extra 4 miles per gallon combined. However, the fourth row tips the scales back in the Elantra GT’s favor thanks to an extra 7 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the back row of seats.
Space is immensely important in a hatchback sedan like these two, so that’s certainly a big leg up to close things out for the Elantra GT. If you think you’d be interested in a 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT of your own, or would simply like to learn more about it, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
