When it comes to compact sedans, there are still plenty of models available. The market is turning more towards crossover utility vehicles and pickup trucks, but there is still a wide, wide variety of sedans from which to choose. We’ve got quite a few available right on the Hyundai lineup, including the compact 2019 Hyundai Elantra. We thought we’d see how it measures up to one of its biggest competitors by pitting the 2019 Hyundai Elantra vs 2019 Nissan Sentra.

2019 Nissan Sentra |
---|---|---|
147 HP | Horsepower | 130 HP |
36 mpg | Highway Fuel Efficiency | 35 mpg |
26 mpg | City Fuel Efficiency | 27 mpg |
5 | Seating Capacity | 5 |
As you can tell from one glance at the table above, these two compact sedans are incredibly comparable to one another, though there are certainly advantages between them. For instance, the first row highlights horsepower, in which the Elantra delivers an extra 17 HP. That’s not a massive leg up, but it’s an advantage nonetheless, and one that would probably be noticeable in a side-by-side comparison on the road.
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the two sedan might as well be identical thanks to identical combined fuel economy ratings of 31 mpg. However, the Elantra is slightly more efficient on the highway while the Sentra gets more efficiency through the city. Each is only a 1 mpg difference, so not a huge change either way. The final row of the table highlights the similarity in space, as both sedans offer the usual seating of up to five.
