Next year will see the introduction of an all-new Hyundai Sonata, but that doesn’t make the current iteration any less of a viable option in the midsize sedan class. The Hyundai Sonata has been tearing up its segment for over three decades throughout seven generations, and we cannot wait for the eight. But the final version of its seventh generation is an excellent option as well. We thought we’d highlight that by showing you how it measures up to one of its biggest competitors as we pit the 2019 Hyundai Sonata vs 2019 Nissan Altima.
2019 Hyundai Sonata |
Vs |
2019 Nissan Altima |
---|---|---|
185 HP | Horsepower | 188 HP |
29 mpg | Combined Fuel Efficiency | 32 mpg |
16.3 cu. ft. | Cargo Capacity | 15.4 cu. ft. |
5 | Seating Capacity | 5 |
Unfortunately, the specifications highlighted in the table don’t paint the best picture for the Sonata from the top. In the first row we look at horsepower, an aspect in which the Altima technically has a leg up. But with that advantage only being by 3 horsepower, they might as well be identical in performance. The second row then highlights the two sedans’ combined fuel economy ratings, in which the advantage is a little more clear cut as the Altima gets 3 extra miles to the gallon.
However, the third row shows that the Sonata does offer an extra 0.9 cubic feet of space in the trunk for whatever cargo you need to bring along. The final row just shows that both offer the same amount of seats for passengers. However, what’s not pictured in the table above are all of the incredible features and design cues that make the Hyundai Sonata such a unique and exciting midsize sedan.
Features like the technologies that make up the Hyundai SmartSense safety suite. Features like HomeLink and Qi-enable wireless device charging. Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard across the board, even on the base trim level. Et cetera.
