For the new model year, the Hyundai Accent wasn’t significantly redesigned, due in large part to it having just been redesigned for the 2018 model year. However, the 2020 Hyundai Accent in Melbourne FL did undergo some powertrain enhancements to keep things especially exciting!
The Hyundai Accent was first introduced twenty-five years ago back in 1994, following up where its predecessor the Hyundai Excel left off. In the years since, it has remained an excellent subcompact sedan with its front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration and it seems as though it will continue to do just that for years to come.
Let’s start by taking a look at the powertrain changes that came to the 2020 Accent this year. Its previous engine has been replaced by a Smartstream G1.6L DPI DOHC 4-cylinder engine capable of generating 120 horsepower alongside 113 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to a laundry list of new technologies built into the engine, both power and fuel efficiency have been increased, the former much more than the latter. While horsepower has only increased by 1, fuel economy went up by 5 mpg city and 3 mpg highway.
Some of the technologies found in the engine include Dual Port Injection, Thermal Management Module, Mid-phase Continuously Variable Valve Timing, a narrow water jacket core, a high-energy ignition coil, an External Exhaust Gas Recovery system among others. In addition, the Accent’s 6-speed automatic transmission has been replaced with the brand-new Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission system.
Of course, there are plenty of other great features, technologies and content available and standard in the 2020 Hyundai Accent. This includes things like SmartSense features, push-button start, an infotainment system and so much more.
